![]() ![]() The building passed its air tightness requirements with flying colours (coming in at at 0.3 ACH at 50 Pascals)! We worked with owners Indwell, the architect Invizij and the General Contractor Schithuis Construction to ensure the air barrier met or exceeded passive house air tightness standards. The Fourth Pig acted as air tightness consultants and air barrier installers (and solver of air tightness details) on Parkdale Landing, which is to date t he largest passive house retrofit in Canada. Read more about the low carbon approach to this build (and see more photos) in the article "Beer and Building Science Inseparable At Last." Learn more about the brewery and the farm through this “Meet the Makers” video. Finally we used durable non toxic finishes on the interior. ![]() Windows and doors are passive house standard triple glazed wood aluminum clad. The brewery is super airtight, designed to meet passive house standards with super insulated walls and roof (R40) and R60 attic. We focused on using recycled (where possible) and recyclable materials. We used lower carbon concrete - saving 60% carbon reduction over typical concrete - recycled content rebar, recycled content galvalume interior wall, ceiling lining of brewery, and exterior foundation skirt. Now GoodLot is one of Canada’s first (if not the first) 100% electric brewery with solar power. GoodLot Farmstead Brewing makes hyperlocal beers, growing their ingredients on their organic farm or getting them locally. We transformed an old horse barn to an energy efficient brewery. The building envelope was prefabricated by Tooketree Passive Homes using the S.E.E.D (Sustainable, Ecological, Efficient, Durable) building system. This home features sustainably harvested (FSC) engineered hardwood and tile flooring, long lasting metal siding and roofing, solid wood trim and doors, extra soundproofing between units and bedrooms, super energy efficient heating and cooling system with a ducted air source heat pump, Hepa filtered energy recovery ventilation system integrated with the heating and cooling system, O VOC paints and sealants, LED lights throughout. Sunlit quiet rooms with triple glazed windows that are comfortable to sit by in all seasons are the result of careful attention to comfort, energy efficiency, building durability, resilience and indoor air quality at every stage of the design and construction. Our members are invested in the success of the organization and we are proud to share and promote cooperative values.įor more on why we work the way we do see this short video.Ĭomfort, health and enjoyment were top priorities for the design and build of this beautiful two unit home steps from Lake of Bays Ontario. Founded in 2007 the Fourth Pig is a non-profit worker co-operative that is owned and operated by its members. Our mission is to foster ecologically balanced methods of construction and energy production in order to promote more sustainable and healthy communities. The Fourth Pig works primarily in the GTA, the Golden Horseshoe and Muskoka areas of Ontario. The result is comfortable buildings that are good for the planet and good for your health. Sustainable building means a cleaner environment, more efficient energy generation and use, more effective use of building materials, and healthier living spaces. Imagine a home not too hot or cold with air not too dry or moist and the right amount of light. Imagine the pleasure of breathing clean filtered air. Imagine sleeping in a room quiet to the outside noise. Imagine comfortably sitting next to a window in the winter. ![]()
